On Wednesday, the Japanese Yen (JPY) remained stable against the euro (EUR), and the market continued to pay attention to trade trends with the United States.
As of writing, EUR/JPY trading above 169.00, and the 10-day simple moving average (SMA) provides support at 168.90.
The failure to regain the psychological threshold of 170.00 after reaching a year-on-year high of 169.86 on Monday put the pair into a narrow range.
As the July 9 tariff deadline approaches, the United States is focusing on smaller, progressive trade agreements rather than www.xmh100.comprehensive agreements, aiming to avoid triggering new tariffs.
Trade negotiations with the EU (EU) show signs of positive progress. The EU has expressed openness to a full 10% tariff, but seeks exceptions in sensitive industries such as semiconductors and pharmaceuticals.
However, tensions between the United States and Japan have intensified in recent days. President Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Japanese goods to more than 30% after Japan refused to increase imports of rice from the United States.
On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported the latest developments in the U.S.-Japan trade dispute. Trump said Japan will receive a letter saying, "Thank you very much...we know you can't do what we need, so you will pay 30%, 35%, or whatever figure we have determined."
The euro/yen may continue to rise if higher tariffs are imposed on Japan and the EU successfully reaches an agreement with the United States.
Euro/JPY is limited by the psychological resistance level of 170.00
From a technical point of view, the psychological level of 170.00The resistance level is still intact. This integer mark has been suppressing bulls for the past four days.
After rising to a new year-on-year high of 169.86, the bulls' momentum weakened, and then found temporary support above the 10-day simple moving average (SMA) 168.90.
The relative strength index (RSI) is 66 and points downward. As RSI retreated after testing overbought conditions last week, the downward trend reflected a weakening of bullish momentum.
The fundamental and technical factors jointly affect the short-term trend of the euro/Japanese yen. If the bulls successfully break through 170, the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level that fell from July to August 2024 could play a role as a resistance level of 170.93, slightly below the integer mark of 171.00.
However, if bearish momentum increases, the EUR/JPY falls below the 10-day SMA, with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement at 167.40, aligned with the 20-day SMA, which may provide additional support for the price action.
