The euro (EUR) weakened against the US dollar (USD) during the US period on Thursday, after a series of U.S. economic data provided some relief to the US dollar.
After rising to a multi-year high of 1.1830 on Tuesday, the euro/dollar market is facing resistance and is currently trading below 1.1800.
The market focus on Thursday was the release of U.S. employment data. As investors continue to look for clues that the Fed may begin rate cuts, the focus has turned to the June non-farm employment report (NFP).
Tops of non-farm employment showed that the U.S. economy added 147,000 new jobs in June, surpassing analysts' expectations of 110,000 growth and 144,000 jobs in May. Unemployment rate fell from 4.2% to 4.1%, and wage growth remained stable.
The report also includes additional indicators such as unemployment, labor participation and wage growth indicators, key indicators that the Fed is closely watching for to assess inflation trends.
The resilient labor market has eased pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, causing a moderate rebound in U.S. yields to support the dollar.
Euro/USD faces short-term resistance at 1.1800
Euro/USD currency pair has shown strong bullish momentum in recent days, and has recently climbed to a high of 1.1830. Testing of this level prompted some profit-taking, pushing the pair back to the current psychological resistance range below 1.1800.
Despite the pullback, the price is still above the 10-day and 20-day simple moving average (SMA), currently providing support around 1.1695 and 1.1592, respectively. These twoBoth moving averages are on an upward trend, reflecting continued strength in the short and medium term and strengthening a broader bullish structure.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is currently close to 68, slightly below the overbought area, indicating strong momentum but also suggests a short consolidation or pullback.
In bullish situations, if the pair stays above the 1.1695 support and regains the upward action energy, it may be retested and breaks through 1.1830.
