GBP/USD continued its decline during the Asian trading session. It is currently trading around 1.3340, closing lower for five consecutive trading days.

The U.S. dollar received support from safe-haven capital inflows, while the market’s optimistic expectations for a global trade agreement also boosted the U.S. dollar. U.S. President Trump is expected to reach multiple agreements with Asian leaders next week, which will strengthen demand for the dollar in the short term.

In terms of Fed policy expectations, CMEFedWatchTool shows that the market expects the Fed to cut interest rates by 25 basis points in October with almost 97% probability, and the probability of another interest rate cut in December is about 96%.

According to a market survey, 115 of 117 economists predict that interest rates will be lowered to 3.75%-4.00% in October. In terms of expected number of interest rate cuts throughout the year, 83 economists expect two and 32 expect one.

In terms of sterling, after the UK September CPI data was released, the pound came under pressure. Data show that UK CPI increased by 3.8% year-on-year, 4.0% lower than market expectations, and core CPI (excluding food and energy) increased by 3.5% year-on-year, slightly lower than market expectations of 3.7%.

Although overall inflation is higher than the Bank of England's 2% target, it does not meet market expectations, leading to increased short-term selling pressure.

Taken together, GBP/USD is affected by both the strength of the U.S. dollar and the short-term technical correction of the pound. It may continue to fluctuate in the downward range in the short term. Investors should pay attention to the further impact of global trade dynamics, Federal Reserve policy and British inflation data on the market.

The daily chart shows that there is short-term pressure on the rebound of the US dollar and profit-making selling pressure on the pound. The price is located in the resistance zone of 1.3320–1.3360, and the support below focuses on 1.3300–1.3320.

If the US dollar continues to strengthen or risk aversion intensifies, the pound may test the support of 1.3280–1.3300; if the US dollar www.xmh100.comes under pressure or British economic data improves, the pound may rebound to 1.3360–1.3400 in the short term. In the short term, the market is mainly range-bound, and the forces of both long and short sides are relatively balanced.
